Job Title: Special Needs Behavior Interventionist (Shared Position)
Reports To: Building Principal
Location:Three Fires Elementary School
FTE:0.38
Wage: $23.08/hr
Hours:15 hrs/week (TBD)
Work Year: Ten Months (Instructional Days in the school calend ar + 2 Professional Development Days & All DPPD Days)

SUMMARY:
The Special Needs Behavior Interventionist provides social, emotional and/or behavior support to students in order to enhance their success within the general education setting and the special education setting. Support may be provided individually or within small groups. This position works with administration and the special education team to provide support to our students that may be most challenged by their disability related needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Is a positive role model for all students in the building, upholding the District’s standards of ethics, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Maintains regular predictable attendance.
- Assists with the supervision and monitoring of student activities during school.
- Responds to calls when teachers or staff need assistance with students.
- Follows student behavior plans and Emergency Intervention Plans.
- Observes, documents, and follows up on behavior of individual students, maintaining accurate records of supports and student behaviors.
- Consults with staff about specific behaviors of students.
- Attend staffings to provide feedback to the team to improve proactive support.
- Participates annually in Crisis Prevention Intervention training.
- Serves as liaison among staff members directly involved with the student as well as administration.
- Works cooperatively with building principal, other administration team members, teachers, and ancillary staff to develop and coordinate behavior management programs/plans.
- Regular in-person attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
High school diploma (or equivalent); and must meet one of the following requirements:
- Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours); or
- Obtain an Associate’s Degree (or higher); or
- Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment:
- Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading, writing and mathematics or
- Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.
The State Board of Education has approved the following formal assessments by which a paraprofessional may choose to demonstrate this knowledge:
- Evidence-based Reading & Writing - 480
- Mathematics - 530 OR
- Reading - 22
- Combined English/Writing - 22
- Mathematics - 22 OR
- Reading - 1108
- Writing - 1129
- Mathematics - 1116 OR
- Reading for Information (Level 4 minimum),
- Applied Mathematics (Level 4 minimum) and
- Writing (Level 3 minimum) BEFORE June 1, 2017 will still meet the state requirements.
LANGUAGE SKILLS :
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written English language;
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos; and
- Ability to work with the general public and students.
COMPUTER SKILLS :
Basic computer skills.
