Overview
Physical Therapist – Part-time, PRN-Non-benefitted
- Contingent Variable Shifts (Day/Afternoons).
Location:
Howell & Brighton, MI.
Employer:
Trinity Health Livingston Hospital & Brighton Medical Center. Pay rate: $57.33 per hour.
- Implements the evaluation and treatment of medically disabled patients using established procedures.
- Provides education to patients and family to deal with present disabilities or prevent further disabilities.
- Provides consultation to health care personnel and public in matters related to physical therapy.
- Evaluates patients physical and functional status, including muscular strength, motor function, reflexes, and ambulation skills.
- Observes and interviews patients, reviews medical histories, and administers detailed sensory tests, manual muscle tests, range of motion exams and other evaluation techniques.
- Establishes short- and long-term therapy goals and formulates treatment plans aligned with those goals.
- Treats patients using recognized physical therapy procedures (therapeutic exercise, gait training, functional training, modalities, and assistive devices).
- Provides and delegates treatment procedures to appropriate personnel.
- Monitors patient progress, consults with physicians and other health-care team members to adjust treatment as necessary.
- Determines appropriate devices (wheelchairs, canes, crutches, prosthetic/orthotic devices) to assist patients in performing activities, and instructs patients in their care and use.
- Maintains documentation of patient progress toward goals and prepares reports for physicians, treatment team, and supervisor review.
- Participates in general physical therapy operations (education, quality review, clinical education, program planning, clinics) and supervises physical therapy student interns.
- Maintains records and logs of treatments and prepares billing-related documents.
- Discusses evaluations, goals, and treatments with patients and families to elicit cooperation and ease anxieties.
- Participates in discharge planning with physicians and health care team to ensure continuation of rehabilitation at home or other settings.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Physical Therapy Supervisor or Manager and stays current with field developments.
- Maintains good rapport, constructive conflict resolution, and confidentiality of patient, physician, employee, and visitor information as appropriate.
- Assumes responsibility for safe practices to protect patients and coworkers and reports hazards promptly.
- Delivers quality patient care considering age-specific, developmental, and cultural needs; demonstrates unit/area competencies.
- Adheres to Mission, Vision and Values of Saint Joseph Mercy Health System and contributes to a compassionate, person-centered care environment.
- Graduate from an accredited school of Physical Therapy and licensure as Physical Therapist in the State of Michigan.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and physical therapy treatments and modalities.
- Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients, families, and treatment team members.
- Analytical skills to evaluate patients, establish goals, formulate plans, and document progress.
- Ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail for up to 80% of work time during treatments and documentation.
- Ability to react quickly in sudden unplanned situations to prevent or minimize injuries.
- Ability to stand/walk for up to 50% of work time; lift/push/pull 40-60 pounds for up to 20% of work time when positioning maneuvers are required.
- Effective communication with patients, families, and health center personnel.
