Public Health, Emergency Crisis Mgmt/ Disaster Relief
The mission of the Livingston County Public Health MRC is to engage and retain volunteers, both medical and non-medical, to strengthen public health, emergency response and community resilience.
The goal of our MRC is to coordinate with local and regional partners to develop volunteer resources to support public health needs in the community and be prepared to effectively respond to public health events.
DUTIESWe have four key commitments to our volunteer team:
- MRC volunteers receive quarterly mailings and training on various public health preparedness and wellness topics.
- Volunteers participate in table-top and full-scale emergency response exercises.
- It is important that we have trained and dedicated volunteers as part of our team. We believe that the more people that are prepared, the safer our community will be.
- We typically offer training to our volunteers 2-3 times per year. In addition to training, our volunteers have the opportunity to participate in local and regional table-top and full-scale emergency response exercises. Some of our past training sessions include:
- Incident Command System Public Health Volunteers in training
- Food Borne Illness and Outbreaks
- Family Preparedness
- CPR and First Aid
- Psychological First Aid
- Mass Clinic Operations
- Anthrax Response
- Pandemic Flu
- H1 N1
The purpose of our training program is to educate and train our volunteers on various public health emergency topics so that we are better prepared to respond to a wide variety of emergency situations, including the recent Influenza A H1N1 outbreak, food-borne illness outbreaks, natural disasters, and other unpredictable biological, radiological, explosive, or chemical emergencies. Our emergency response training and exercises help us to better protect our community in a public health emergency.
QUALIFICATIONSWe are in the process of strengthening our volunteer database and training program. We are actively recruiting medical and non-medical volunteers to be part of our MRC team.
