Seasonal Program Assistant (Lunch Bunch)
Position Summary: The Program Assistant is responsible for assisting in all Community Center programs including general office and program related support such as assisting visitors, clients, and staff. She is the main resource for questions and program guidance in the absence of the Director/Coordinator. She works with the Summer Lunch Bunch Coordinator to conduct The Salvation Army’s Summer Lunch Bunch Program and oversees the planning and logistics involved in the provision of served food.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinates with meal sites for facilities use.
- Coordinates with transportation providers and families that need transportation to facilitate program involvement.
- Assist with recruitment of program participants and volunteers.
- Oversees planning and logistics involved in the provision of served food.
- Conduct on-site, work‑in‑progress training for any volunteers working directly with food.
- Receive food from cooked meal service vendor, bring to correct temperature, and assemble items.
- Ensure meals are delivered to sites during approved mealtimes and served according to Health Department and USDA Food Service standards.
- Re‑package leftover food for distribution to clients according to Serv Safe standards.
- Provide accurate statistics and ensure compliance procedures to determine program effectiveness.
- Maintain adequate records of meals served and pantry items distributed.
- Monitor sites to ensure compliance with the program and funding source guidelines, including those related to Serv Safe guidelines and USDA requirements.
- Assist with the coordination of the programmatic logistics of The Salvation Army’s Summer Lunch Bunch Program, including transporting and servicing of clients and resources, and communicating effectively with employees, agencies, volunteers, and community sites involved in the program.
- Provide oversight and supervision to volunteers as they serve community meals.
- Represent The Salvation Army well and make every effort to improve the reputation and further emphasize the presence of our organization in the community.
- Assist in planning, preparing, and coordinating additional program enhancement activities, including acquiring guest presenters and materials for craft and activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/
Experience:
High School Diploma / GED, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Ability to supervise others, particularly volunteers, and work as part of a team.
- Ability to work with adults and children.
Computer
Skills:
- Basic computer skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 is a plus.
Certificates and Licenses:
- Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed.
- Must have and maintain a current valid driver’s license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR) or obtain this endorsement within 30 days.
- Ability to drive and handle a box refrigerated truck and a Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Vehicle.
- Serv Safe Certification or ability to obtain it within 90 days.
