We’re currently seeking compassionate, reliable Med/Surg nurses to join our 25‑bed unit at a small community hospital. Our team provides care for a wide variety of adult patients with medical and post‑surgical needs, offering a strong foundation in clinical skills, time management, and teamwork. Whether you’re early in your nursing career or looking to return to the fundamentals of bedside care, this unit offers a solid, well‑rounded experience.

What you will do
  • Gather and analyze patient information
  • Develop, implement, evaluate and revise an individualized plan of care
  • Use teach‑back methodology to educate patient and family
  • Actively seek to prevent potential hospital acquired conditions
  • Effectively communicate patient status, priority goals and interventions during consultations, rounds and handoffs
  • Follow all HIPAA policies and procedures
  • Behave in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of St. Joseph Mercy Hospitals
Required Qualifications

Education

Graduation from a school of nursing that qualifies the graduate to sit for the NCLEX exam and become licensed as a Registered Nurse. BSN preferred.

Licensure

  • Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • BLS certification
  • ACLS required for Float Pool, Cardiac/Cath Lab, AICU, Emergency

Experience

Experienced Canadian Registered Nurses are encouraged to apply. Effective January 1, 2013, all new hires must have a BSN degree or must agree in writing to obtain their BSN within five (5) years from the date of hire or transfer to an RN role.

  • Knowledge of nursing theory, practice and age‑specific needs
  • Interpersonal skills to initiate and maintain collegial relationships with coworkers and therapeutic relationships with patients and families
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to perform the principal duties and responsibilities of this role
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when planning and performing professional nursing care
