Overview
Position Title: Food Service Assistant #6
Location: Highlander Way Middle School
Reports To: Kitchen Manager, Food Service Director and/or Principal/Assistant Principal
Status: Ten (10) month position (18.75 hrs/week; 3.75 hrs/day; 9:45 a.m.
- 1:30 p.m.)
(Up to 4.25 hours/day; 9:15 a.m.
- 1:30 p.m.)

SummaryThe Food Service Assistant provides support in our student nutrition program by working in our school cafeterias by preparing and serving food, cleaning and sanitizing all items and areas within the department, handling food purchase transactions, all while providing excellent customer service to staff and students.
Essential Functions- Pan and bake oven potatoes. Ready more potatoes to cook after each lunch.
- Make mashed potatoes and gravy for Popcorn Chicken Bowls.
- Set up lines for Monday/Wednesday/Friday set up line for Picantes.
- Popcorn Chicken bowls Tuesday & Thursday.
- Ready food for serving students and adults.
- Monday, Wednesday and Friday:
Picantes - Tuesday/Thursday:
Popcorn chicken bowl - After each lunch, ready more oven potatoes for next lunch.
- After lunches, return food from serving line 2 to kitchen area and consolidate.
- Help manager prepare food as needed.
- Sweep and mop servery area and behind all serving lines daily, scrub floor as needed.
- Do production records for your area.
- Do metal, plastic and glass recycling daily.
- Weekly: bag dirty mop and floor duster for pick up and to be cleaned.
- Sweep kitchen area daily and servery.
- Wash dishes from 1:15 to 1:30 or 1:45 if break was taken.
- Miscellaneous Duties:
- Polish weekly.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student accounts.
- Sweep and mop store room weekly.
- Any other duties assigned by manager or Food Service Director.

Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma (or equivalent); and must pass a basic math skills test.
Language Skills- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written English language;
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions;
- Ability to work with the general public and students.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of District requirements and Board policies / administrative guidelines;
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively, speaking clearly and communicating thoughts succinctly;
- Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism with minimal supervision;
- Accurate and detail oriented; and
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, parents, teachers, administration and the school community.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to coordinate hands, eyes, feet and limbs in performing semi-skilled movements such as cooking, washing dishes and operation of a computer keyboard, cash register, and telephone.
The employee is required to be on his/her feet walking around the cafeteria and food service department building for several hours at a time. The employee is required to exert physical effort in work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, walking, standing, reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds from floor to waist height.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
