Location: Howell High School 10-12

Reports To: Kitchen Manager, Food Service Director and/or Principal/Assistant Principal

Status: Ten (10) month position (4.75 hrs/day; M-F 8:45 a.m.

-1:30 p.m.)

First day of school for students - Last day of school for students

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

SUMMARY

The Food Service Assistant provides support in our student nutrition program by working in our school cafeterias by preparing and serving food, cleaning and sanitizing all items and areas within the department, handling food purchase transactions, all while providing excellent customer service to staff and students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assist FSA#11 with making and cooking Smart Mouth personal pizzas until lunch starts.
  • Run a cash register during all lunch periods.
  • In between lunches, replenish cooler if needed with pizza items (cheese, sauce, pepperoni).
  • Needed to make more pizzas for the next day and date mark all items.
  • In between lunches, help wipe pizza pans or spray cooled pizza pans with pan spray.
  • Perform cash out procedure at the end of the last lunch.
  • Pull frozen pizza dough from the walk-in freezer. Record case information on log.
  • Place individual frozen pizza dough pucks into personal pizza pans, stack them, place on a designated rolling rack then push the rolling into the walk-in cooler.
  • Clean and sanitize work area and countertops.
  • Help wipe down tables out in the cafeteria and commons.
  • Fit in a 15 minute paid lunch break.
  • Help clean coolers, ovens, hot carts, and other equipment according to schedule.
  • Clean kitchen bathroom per schedule set by Kitchen Manager.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Regular, predictable in-person attendance.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Kitchen Manager or Food Service Supervisor.

All job descriptions can change upon the discretion of the Kitchen Manager and/or the Food Service Supervisor.

Note:

Food Service Employees running a register need to keep all computer register components clean and free of dust. This includes: computer register/monitor, keyboard, mouse, cord and computer stand.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma (or equivalent); and must pass a basic math skills test.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written English language;
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions;
  • Ability to work with the general public and students.
COMPUTER SKILLS
  • Basic computer skills.
QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of District requirements and Board policies / administrative guidelines;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively, speaking clearly and communicating thoughts succinctly;
  • Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism with minimal supervision;
  • Accurate and detail oriented; and
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, parents, teachers, administration and the school community.
