Position: Fixed Term - Salaried General Practitioner (GP)

Job Summary

Elmwood Family Doctors is a large, modern General Practice operating from two locations in Huddersfield (Holmfirth and Meltham). We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Salaried GP for a fixed-term contract of up to 12 months, with the opportunity to work up to 6 sessions per week. The successful candidate will join a team comprising 10 GP Partners, 1 Salaried GP, 4 Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, and a comprehensive administrative support team.

Both Holmfirth and Meltham provide an excellent living and working environment, with good schools, annual cultural festivals and convenient access to Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield. The villages are set within picturesque Pennine countryside and are well served by local amenities.

Key Clinical Responsibilities
  • Practice in accordance with accepted good medical practice and Elmwood Family Doctors’ clinical policies.
  • Work to an agreed timetable and provide surgery consultations, home visits, repeat prescription checks, online prescriptions and timely paperwork and correspondence.
  • Make professional, autonomous decisions about presenting problems, whether self‑referred or referred from other health‑care workers.
  • Assess the health needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems; screen for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Contribute to QOF requirements and record data appropriately to achieve other practice quality markers.
  • Develop care plans for health‑related illnesses in consultation with patients, following current practice disease‑management protocols.
  • Record clear, contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Collect data for audit purposes and contribute to the Practice audit programme.
  • Prescribe according to the accepted prescribing formulary, or generically when clinically appropriate.
  • Take responsibility for aspects of clinical work within the team, such as governance, QOF, enhanced services, CPD and keeping clinical protocols up to date.
  • Undertake all duties and responsibilities expected of a GP in primary care, including appraisal and revalidation, as set by relevant professional bodies and the Department of Health.
  • Maintain quality within the practice, alerting team members to quality and risk issues, assessing own performance and taking accountability.
  • Work effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients’ needs and manage own time, workload and resources.
  • Contribute to the team’s approach to referrals, ensuring adequate information is provided for proper assessment.
Other Responsibilities
  • Support the complaints policy and procedure, ensuring proper investigation and appropriate follow‑up action when complaints are made.
  • Support equality, diversity and rights of patients, carers and colleagues, behaving in a welcoming and non‑judgmental manner that respects circumstances, feelings, priorities and rights.
Qualifications
  • Medical Degree
  • Current GMC registration with license to practice
  • Inclusion on the GP register
  • Experience working in a primary‑care environment
Experience
  • Evidence of working in a primary‑care setting, handling undifferentiated patients and managing complex patients holistically.
  • Experience of quality‑improvement activity in primary care and evidence of valued teamwork.
