About the role

We are seeking an experienced Attendance Officer to join a thriving secondary school in Huddersfield on a full‑time, long‑term basis. This is an immediate‑start position for someone who understands the vital role attendance plays in student achievement and is confident managing attendance systems in a busy school environment. You’ll be part of a supportive pastoral team committed to improving outcomes for young people.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and track daily attendance
    , ensuring registers are accurate and completed on time.
  • Identify patterns of absence and work proactively with students, families, and staff to improve attendance.
  • Conduct first‑day calling
    , home contact, and follow‑up communication in line with safeguarding procedures.
  • Produce attendance reports for senior leaders, pastoral teams, and external agencies.
  • Work closely with the pastoral and safeguarding teams
    , contributing to intervention plans and supporting vulnerable students.
  • Liaise with the local authority regarding persistent absence and statutory processes.
  • Maintain and update attendance systems (e.g., SIMS/Arbor/Bromcom) with accuracy and confidentiality.
Pre‑requisites
  • Previous Attendance Officer experience in a school setting is essential.
  • Strong working knowledge of attendance legislation
    , safeguarding expectations, and school attendance procedures.
  • Confident using MIS systems and producing data‑driven reports.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Highly organised, detail‑focused, and able to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
