Overview

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Primary Education to join our Department of Initial Teacher Education in the School of Business, Education, and Law. The Department is a vibrant community supporting trainee teachers across all phases; early years, primary, secondary and further education, in close partnership with our extensive network of partner schools. Our mission is to develop professional educators who transform the learning and life opportunities of the children, young people and adults they work with.

Through inclusive practice, reflective enquiry and a commitment to continuous professional development, we empower our trainees to become autonomous practitioners who enable all learners to realise their potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and facilitate learners’ knowledge, skills and professional attributes on contemporary, future‑looking courses, enabling graduates to meet the challenges of pupils, schools, and communities.
  • Commit to research and an innovative student‑centred learning experience.
  • Manage courses and modules effectively, demonstrating administrative capability.
  • Collaborate with academic and professional services colleagues, supporting trainee teachers across all phases.
Qualifications
  • Teaching qualification with QTS and a master's degree (or equivalent) in primary education or a related subject.
  • Requirement to register for a doctorate within 12 months of appointment if not already held.
  • Substantial experience teaching in the primary phase.
  • Excellent knowledge of the primary curriculum to teach confidently across undergraduate and postgraduate modules.
  • Sound understanding of Ofsted inspection criteria.
  • Engagement with educational research or scholarship, with the potential to build a sustained research profile.
  • Strong communication skills, digital literacy, and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
