Job Description

Job Title: Pastoral Mentor

Location: Taylor Hill

Hours and Weeks per Year: 18.5 hours per week / 38 weeks per year

In the role of Pastoral Mentor, you will predominantly be based at Taylor Hill, Huddersfield and your focus will be on supporting our students on courses across level 1, level 2 and level
3. This role will also include Access to HE students on level 1, 2 and 3 programmes of study. This is a term time only position.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Carry out 1:1 reviews and interventions.
  • Provide effective coaching for students on an individual basis or in a group setting to support success and progression, including offering a range of holistic support to ensure a rounded approach to support for students.
  • Liaise closely with relevant staff in supporting students identified as at risk.
  • Enable and support students to overcome barriers to progress and success.
  • Ensure students are safeguarded and provided appropriate follow up support.
  • Monitor progress in learning and attendance.

Ideally, you will have demonstrable experience in supporting students, both 16‑18 and adults, in an education setting and strong evidence of CPD. You must be able to communicate effectively, engage with both young people and adults, and have an excellent understanding of equality and diversity, demonstrating our College values of Kindness, Unity and Excellence in your role.
