Position: Trust Development Lead for KS2 Outcomes

The Trust Development Lead for KS2 Outcomes will provide strategic leadership and operational support to improve outcomes for pupils in Years 5 and 6 across the Trust. The postholder will lead the review, development and implementation of the Trust's KS2 offer, ensuring pupils are exceptionally well prepared for end of Key Stage 2 assessments and successful transition to secondary education.

Working closely with headteachers, subject leaders and teaching staff, the Trust Lead will identify effective practice, address barriers to achievement and develop evidence-informed approaches that maximise pupil progress and attainment. The role will combine support, challenge, coaching and quality assurance to secure sustained improvement in KS2 outcomes across all Trust schools.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership
  • Lead a comprehensive review of current Year 5 and Year 6 provision across the Trust.
  • Design and develop a consistent Trust-wide KS2 outcomes strategy.
  • Establish a clear and ambitious offer for Year 5 and Year 6 pupils that supports high standards of attainment and progress.
  • Ensure the Trust's KS2 curriculum, pedagogy and assessment approaches are aligned with current national expectations and best practice.
  • Develop systems for sharing effective practice across schools.
School Improvement
  • Work collaboratively with headteachers to identify strengths, priorities and areas for development.
  • Provide support and challenge to school leaders in relation to KS2 performance.
  • Support schools in the development and implementation of improvement plans focused on KS2 outcomes.
  • Conduct reviews, learning walks, book scrutinies, assessment reviews and pupil progress discussions.
  • Support schools in preparing for external accountability and inspection processes.
  • Promote high expectations for all pupils, particularly disadvantaged pupils, pupils with SEND and other vulnerable groups.
Curriculum, Teaching and Learning
  • Work with subject leaders to strengthen curriculum implementation in Years 5 and 6.
  • Promote evidence-informed teaching approaches with a proven impact on pupil outcomes.
  • Support the development of teaching, assessment and feedback practices across KS2.
  • Identify, develop and disseminate exemplary classroom practice.
  • Work alongside leaders to evaluate the effectiveness of intervention programmes and deploy resources strategically.
Data, Assessment and Outcomes
  • Analyse Trust and school-level attainment and progress data to identify trends, gaps and priorities.
  • Support leaders and teachers in using assessment information effectively to inform teaching and intervention.
  • Monitor the impact of improvement strategies through regular review of pupil performance.
  • Produce reports for Trust leaders and Trustees detailing progress against agreed success measures.
  • Establish robust systems for tracking Year 5 and Year 6 pupil achievement.
Leadership Development and Collaboration
  • Coach and mentor teachers, subject leaders and senior leaders.
  • Design and deliver professional development focused on KS2 improvement.
  • Facilitate Trust-wide networks for Year 5 and Year 6 teachers and subject leaders.
  • Build leadership capacity within schools to ensure sustainable improvement beyond the duration of the role.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, professional learning and continuous improvement across the Trust.
Specific Project Outcomes

By the end of the one-year appointment, the postholder will have:

  • Complete a Trust-wide review of KS2 provision.
  • Establish a clearly defined and documented Year 5 and Year 6 offer.
  • Implement a consistent framework for assessment, intervention and monitoring.
  • Develop sustainable professional networks for KS2 staff.
  • Increase teacher and subject leader expertise in securing strong KS2 outcomes.
  • Demonstrate measurable improvements in Year 5 and Year 6 attainment and progress indicators across the Trust in 2027 and a sustainable framework for future success.
  • Produce recommendations for future Trust-wide school improvement priorities.
