Senior Drainage & Flood Risk Engineer
Huddersfield
An established and forward-thinking engineering practice is seeking a Senior Drainage & Flood Risk Engineer to join its Huddersfield team. With a strong reputation for delivering sustainable infrastructure solutions across the UK, the practice works on projects ranging from focused site-level assessments to major transport and infrastructure programmes, supporting both private and public sector clients.
The organisation's civil engineering portfolio is broad and varied, encompassing highways, bridges, drainage networks, water infrastructure, energy facilities, transport systems and large-scale strategic developments. Flood resilience and sustainable drainage design are central to its approach, ensuring developments are technically sound, environmentally responsible and aligned with long-term infrastructure strategies.
Project involvement spans the full lifecycle, from feasibility appraisals and conceptual design through to detailed engineering, regulatory approvals, contract documentation, construction support and ongoing asset management. A collaborative, risk-aware methodology underpins delivery, integrating multiple technical disciplines to achieve solutions that meet programme, budget and performance objectives.
In this role you will take a leading role in the design and coordination of drainage strategies, SuDS schemes and Flood Risk Assessments across a diverse project portfolio. The position requires responsibility for technical outputs, client liaison, stakeholder engagement and securing statutory approvals and you will also oversee project programming, mentor junior engineers and contribute to the continued growth and technical excellence of the team.
Applicants should hold a relevant engineering qualification and be Chartered, or working towards Chartership, with a recognised professional body. Significant consultancy experience in drainage and flood risk engineering is essential, alongside proficiency in relevant industry software and a strong understanding of UK standards and regulatory frameworks. A full UK driving licence is required.
In return, the practice offers a competitive remuneration package, structured professional development and genuine opportunities to progress within a collaborative and technically ambitious environment.
