Our Manufacturing Engineer (Metrology) roles offer the opportunity to support production and assembly activities within a specialist Defence environment. You’ll work closely with engineering, production and wider business teams, helping to solve technical challenges, improve manufacturing processes and support the successful delivery of projects.

About the Role:
  • Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support to Manufacturing, Assembly and Engineering teams, ensuring components and assemblies meet drawing, dimensional, quality and programme requirements.
  • Plan and undertake metrology and dimensional control activities, using equipment such as laser trackers to inspect components, tooling and assemblies, analyse dimensional data and support tolerance stack-up requirements.
  • Interpret drawings, tolerances and specifications, advising on manufacturing and machine tool capability and supporting Design Engineering with dimensional control and manufacturability requirements.
  • Support PFMEA and continuous improvement activities, including process mapping, risk mitigation, machine capability studies and improvements to manufacturing methods, tooling, quality and process efficiency.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders, including Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality and customers, providing metrology expertise to support customer F.A.T., installations and the successful delivery of manufacturing programmes.
About You:
  • Previous experience in a Manufacturing Engineer, Assembly Engineer, Production Engineer or similar role, ideally within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Must hold an NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline. A degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar subject would be desirable.
  • Experience in dimensional control and component/assembly accuracy, with the ability to use laser trackers, measuring arms and metrology equipment to verify and challenge manufacturing tolerances.
  • Ability to interpret technical engineering drawings and specifications, with a strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and the ability to create and approve stage manufacturing drawings.
