Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced and motivated registered nurse's to join our Acute Oncology and Helpline Team as a Sister/Charge Nurse.

This is a rewarding leadership role that combines clinical expertise, specialist cancer nursing practice, and operational management responsibilities. The successful candidate will provide visible clinical and managerial leadership, supporting the delivery of high-quality, safe, and patient-centred care.

The post requires specialist responsibilities within Acute Oncology, including triaging and assessing patients via the Oncology and Haematology Helpline, managing patients attending the assessment area, and acting as the Clinical Nurse Specialist for patients diagnosed with Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) and Malignancy of Unknown Origin (MUO). You will work closely with oncology, haematology and wider cancer services to provide expert advice, support, and continuity of care throughout the patient pathway.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced Band 5 nurse's looking to progress into a senior leadership role or an established Band 6 nurse seeking to further develop their specialist oncology expertise.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide professional, clinical and operational leadership within the Oncology and Haematology service, supporting the delivery of high-quality patient-centred care. They will lead and support the nursing team, coordinate patient care, undertake Acute Oncology triage and assessment, and act as Clinical Nurse Specialist for patients with Cancer of Unknown Primary and Malignancy of Unknown Origin. The role also includes responsibility for staff development, service improvement, clinical audit and ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and experience are maintained.
