Sous Chef ResponsibilitiesThe Sous Chef provides full-scope, hands‑on production cooking in our community culinary program and is responsible for ensuring excellence in food quality, service, and cleanliness.
- Exemplify high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and organization
- Ensure food quality, appearance, and presentation always meet standards
- Prepare and serve meals in compliance with nutritional/dietary criteria and physician orders
- Demonstrate speed, accuracy, and efficiency in cooking
- Regularly visit residents to evaluate food service and make improvements as needed
- Embrace a culture of hospitality — deliver excellent customer service to residents, guests, and coworkers
- Plan, prepare, and present meals for residents, activities, and special events
- Maintain compliance with local codes and policies for food safety and storage
- Inspect storage areas and ensure supply control
- Complete administrative duties such as reports and inventory tracking
- Maintain clean and orderly dining areas
- Obtain and maintain Serv Safe/Food Handler’s Permit
- Foster teamwork and positive interactions across departments
- Support a professional image through dress and conduct
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Culinary Experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a restaurant, senior living, or equivalent cooking environment.
- Ability to follow approved, standardized recipes and menus for regular and therapeutic diets.
- Ability to make independent decisions without supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact tactfully with residents, family members, team members, and the public.
- Ability to make decisions in stressful situations.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to direct team members effectively.
- Possess good character and a high degree of personal integrity.
- Demonstrate genuine concern for the physical and emotional needs of older adults and their families.
- Required to receive the annual Flu vaccine, excluding religious or medical exemptions.
