Summary
The Patient Service Representative provides a comprehensive set of business, financial and appointment-related services including visit preparation, patient arrival and departure functions, payment functions and creating a positive patient experience.
Job DetailsPart Time (20 hours per week)
Schedule:
M-F 4pm to 8pm and Sat 9am to 1pm
Location:
Onsite at Boston Heights Orthopedics
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with patients and families by greeting and providing prompt and caring response to questions, requests, etc.
- Performs point-of-service activities such as visit preparation, co-pay collection, patient tracking, and other duties under supervisor direction.
- Schedules patient visits or diagnostic testing using hospital procedures and resources.
- Manages third‑party payors and collects co-pays.
- Performs routine tasks: faxing, copying, filing, mailings, returning phone calls, taking and distributing messages, etc.
- Ensures front‑desk inventory is maintained and communicates needs to staff.
- Prioritizes workload and anticipates needs and deadlines for smooth office operation.
- Maintains overall department appearance, including cleanliness of the work area and waiting room as needed.
- Participates in clerical and administrative cross‑coverage efforts as needed.
- Ensures HIPAA compliance is followed.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Experience in a general office (clerical or administrative) setting.
- Experience in a healthcare environment.
- Experience with a computerized scheduling system.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for communicating via telephone or face‑to‑face with patients, families, physicians and staff.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Basic math skills for processing insurance co‑payments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software.
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. - Certification:
None. - Relevant experience in clerical or administrative duties: preferred.
- Supervisory experience:
None.
