Job Description
We are seeking a Field Cost Engineer to join our team in Hudson, WI. The QS role has a core responsibility to carefully estimate costs, calculate material needs and map out project timelines. The QS will liaise closely with all Project teams to plan the job, keep the job on track and play a key role in project close out.
Your role- Consult with clients to understand their requirements.
- Conduct feasibility studies to vet proposed projects.
- Calculate quantities, installed validation and costs for materials, labor, and time frames.
- Prepare tender packages and contracts, including bills of quantities.
- Work with procurement and manage the RFP process through the pre-bid qualification process, selection of bidders, RFP returns, bid leveling, negotiation, and prepare bid tab and recommendation to award (RTA).
- Work with client contract managers and procurement specialists to resolve contractual matters.
- Support project managers with contract budgeting.
- Ensure all documentation is complete and accessible in the company repository, including contracts, sign‑off documents, and work papers.
- Provide advice on and interpretation of contract requirements.
- Monitor scope creep and scope changes.
- Coordinate with program/project managers to ensure contract requirements are fulfilled.
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant contractual procedures and practices.
- Work closely with project controls and finance teams to ensure CAPEX procurement aligns with cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting.
- Manage risk, value engineering and cost control measures.
- Analyze repair/maintenance costs.
- Negotiate contracts and schedules.
- Oversee and value subcontractors’ work for payments.
- Ensure compliance with regulations and quality standards.
- Continually assess value for the client’s investment.
- Analyze outcomes and provide budget/progress reports.
- Advise on claims, disputes and any contractual issues.
- Perform such other duties as the Supervisor may deem necessary from time to time.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for construction projects.
- Measure and analyze project costs and quantities.
- Evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes.
- Prepare contracts, change orders, and cost reports.
- Provide cost advice and support to project teams.
- Conduct value engineering and life‑cycle cost analyses.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Quantity Surveying, or a related field, plus 5–10 years of relevant experience.
- Professional accreditation such as MRICS or equivalent.
- Experience with construction and project management software.
- Advanced knowledge of construction law and regulations.
- Previous experience in a similar role.
- Proficiency in procurement and contract negotiation.
- Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong network within the construction industry.
- Thorough understanding of construction industry regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Self‑motivated, highly articulate, with a clear analytical approach to problem solving and strong decision‑making abilities.
- Strong understanding of Microsoft Office, with strong Excel skills preferred.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills necessary to interface with external engineering, architectural, and construction firms, suppliers, the management team, and other client organizations.

Expected compensation range is $120,000 – $140,000 annually, depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
