Role ResponsibilitiesAs a member of the site Senior Leadership Team, the EHS Manager is responsible for the continual improvement and administration of the environmental health and safety program, and facility risk management at Cruzan Rum. The EHS Manager provides leadership as site EHS champion, educates plant personnel, mediates potential violations and provides general expertise in all EHS matters. Additionally, this leader is a key liaison with Suntory Global Spirits and various government regulatory stakeholders to ensure the EHS program meets or exceeds required guidelines, standards and legal requirements.
- Practice safe working techniques and reinforce Cruzan Rum safety policies, guidelines and procedures to employees.
- Safety Awareness & Training – lead safety awareness within the facility, ensuring all employees recognize safe actions and behaviors; construct and deliver weekly Toolbox Talks/Safety Discussions.
- Provide training to all on‑site contractors and ensure adherence to all Cruzan Rum Distillery Safety policies.
- Coordinate and execute all employee safety trainings.
- Serve as the chair of the Safety Committee. Champion all aspects of the Environmental Health & Safety Committee.
- Coordinate and execute all safety events, including Safety Week.
- Maintain employee safety files.
- Conduct environmental, health and safety inspections as needed, including spill kit, first aid kits and AEDs.
- Serve as the captain of the Cruzan emergency response team.
- Serve as the Environmental Management Representative and Safety Management Representative for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001. Adhere to Cruzan Rum's Integrated Management System Policy and promote quality, environmental, health and safety as a business priority.
- Drive EHS initiatives, engagement and programs to ensure timely completion of all deliverables.
- Build and maintain ownership/engagement of EHS at all levels through proactive and assertive interactions with employees. Promote good reporting, including safety observations and first aid.
- Continuous Improvement Initiatives & Projects – support all continuous improvement initiatives introduced at the facility (e.g., Lean and Behavioral Based Safety). Create continual improvement projects when opportunities are identified.
- Incident Management – actively participate and conduct safety investigations to include root cause analysis.
- Corrective Actions – monitor and followup on actions identified by accident/incident reports, safety observations, first aid reports, safety inspections and audits; provide technical knowledge & assistance as required to properly identify and eliminate root causes.
- Interact positively with visitors to the Cruzan Rum Distillery, including tour program visitors, corporate visitors and contractors.
- Work in partnership with HR to conduct employee investigations and other regulatory reporting.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental, Health or Safety or related field. Master’s preferred.
- Minimum 5–10 years of managing EHS, preferably in a manufacturing facility.
- Experience in administration of safety prevention programs.
- Demonstrated familiarity with OH&S, EPA, DOT, FM, NFPA & OSHA regulations and working knowledge of fire prevention techniques.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and capable of learning and working in other key software systems (e.g., Compliant Pro, SharePoint, Safety Culture, Enablon).
- OSHA 30 Certification preferred.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license, be willing to work flexible hours and travel 25% of the time.
- Must be familiar with the requirements of maintaining ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.
- Strong computer skills to include spreadsheets, databases, word‑processing and project software.
- Excellent communication skills; effective change leader with ability to proactively communicate status and required improvements to employees, peers and facility managers.
- Organizational skills: ability to develop and maintain multiple action plans, provide routine status updates and drive needed actions to completion in a timely manner.
- Ability to make critical decisions and remain calm in emergency situations.
- Compliance with standard operating procedures, legal and other requirements including health and safety, fire protection, environmental, quality, security and continuous improvement programs required.
- Mobility to access all areas of the plant site.
- EMT certificate or first aid and CPR certificate.
- Incident Command Systems experience a plus.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
