All About Food & Beverage

The Food & Beverage team ensures a consistent experience for our guests by keeping products fresh, in stock, accurately priced, and properly signed on the sales floor. They lead food and food services, including replenishment, inventory accuracy, food safety, presentation, pricing, and promotional signing processes for all Food & Beverage areas of the store.

As a Food & Beverage Expert, you will gain experience in:

  • Guest service fundamentals and building a guest‑first culture
  • Providing guests with information on purchases, quantity, and storage tips
  • Food & Beverage business fundamentals: sales trends, inventory, quality and freshness management, guest shopping patterns, pricing, and promotion strategies
  • Seasonality, freshness and quality, food safety standards, and merchandising
Typical Responsibilities
  • Deliver an exceptional guest experience during all hours of operations, prioritizing the guest’s needs.
  • Uphold and maintain the Food & Beverage Standards.
  • Execute Food & Beverage processes including deliveries, replenishment, straightening, in‑stock routines, data accuracy, culling, rotation, cleaning, signing, and organizing reserve product.
  • Follow all food safety requirements as outlined in Target’s policies and procedures.
  • Use sampling and suggestive selling to promote products and increase sales.
  • Work with vendors to proactively set, maintain, and update sales‑floor merchandise displays and back‑room organization.
  • Locate and identify damaged, recalled, or expired items and process them according to Target’s policies.
  • Be knowledgeable about tools, products, and services across the store to solve guest issues.
  • Execute all federal, state, and local adult beverage laws as applicable.
  • Appropriately use and care for in‑store and personal protective equipment; follow equipment control guidelines.
  • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.
  • Operate safely at all times; comply with safety policies, report hazards, and correct them where possible.
  • Support guest services such as back‑up cashier, order pick‑up (OPU), and Drive‑up (DU) while maintaining compliance.
  • Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests as you complete tasks.
  • Engage with guests to help solve specific needs.
  • Thank guests and express appreciation for their choice to shop at Target.
  • Perform other duties as needed based on business requirements.
Qualifications
  • Enjoy interacting and helping others—both guests and team members.
  • Thrives in a fast‑moving, highly active, physically demanding role with teamwork and flexibility.
  • Open to a flexible work schedule with varying hours, days, shifts (including nights, weekends, holidays, and peak times).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age (Bakery Only).
  • Previous food or grocery experience preferred but not required.
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude toward all guests and team members.
  • Can communicate via frequency devices, operate handheld scanners, and use technology as directed.
  • Works independently and as part of a team.
  • Resolves guest questions quickly.
  • Pay close attention to detail and follow multi‑step processes.
  • Stays focused and composed in a fast‑paced environment and accomplishes tasks within established time frames.
Physical and Operational Expectations
  • Accurately handle cash register operations when needed.
  • Climb up and down ladders safely.
  • Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently, including lifting up to 44 pounds.
  • Maintain a flexible, reliable, and prompt attendance schedule.
  • Work in environments ranging from 34°F to –10°F.
  • Work in spaces where common allergens may be handled or present.
  • Manage varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements for duties such as Drive‑Up or carry‑out.
  • Remain mobile for the duration of a shift; shift length may vary.
