About the roleThis is an opportunity to join a well-established and friendly accountancy practice of approximately 15 staff, providing tailored services to a wide range of small business clients. The role is ideal for an experienced practice accountant looking to step into a varied position, combining client management, technical work, and mentoring responsibilities. Sitting between the senior leadership team and junior staff, you will play a key role in reviewing work, managing client relationships, and supporting the development of trainees.
Keyresponsibilities
- Managing a portfolio of approximately 40 clients across a range of industries.
- Preparing and reviewing year-end accounts, corporation tax returns, personal tax returns, VAT returns, CIS submissions, and payroll.
- Reviewing work completed by junior staff and AAT trainees, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Acting as a key point of contact for clients, dealing with day-to-day queries and providing ongoing support.
- Assisting with the training and development of junior team members.
- Supporting clients with Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements and accounting software implementation.
- Experience:
previous experience working within an accountancy practice. - Strong knowledge of year-end accounts, VAT, CIS, payroll, corporation tax, and personal tax.
- Experience managing client relationships and reviewing work is advantageous.
- ACA, ACCA, or AAT part-qualified, fully qualified, or qualified by experience (QBE).
- Study support is available for candidates continuing professional qualifications.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while supporting and mentoring junior colleagues.
- Client-focused approach with the ability to build strong relationships with owner-managed businesses and SMEs.
Standard hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm with a one-hour lunch break.
Core hours: 10:30am - 2:30pm.
Flexitime scheme allowing employees to accrue up to five additional flexi-days each year.
Primarily office-based to encourage collaboration and support junior staff, with flexible and hybrid working arrangements available depending on workload and individual circumstances.
Hybrid working can be considered from the outset for candidates with longer commutes.
