Management Accountant | Hull | £55,000 |
Looking for a role where you're close to the operation and your numbers actually shape decisions on the shop floor? This one's worth a look.
The business is an established manufacturing company based in Hull. They're growing, they're investing, and they need a Management Accountant who wants to get properly involved in the business rather than sit behind a spreadsheet all day.
Reporting into the Financial Controller, you'll own the monthly management accounts and be a go-to person for operational and commercial teams who want to understand what's driving performance.
What you'll be doing- Preparing monthly management accounts, including accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations
- Month-end and year-end close, working to tight reporting deadlines
- Preparing and submitting quarterly VAT returns, making sure they're accurate and compliant with MTD
- Reviewing VAT treatment on sales and purchases, including imports, exports and EU transactions
- Reconciling the VAT control account and dealing with HMRC queries when they come up
- Variance analysis against budget and forecast, with clear commentary on what's behind the numbers
- Supporting the annual budget and rolling forecasts
- Stock and WIP reconciliations, plus standard costing and margin analysis
- Working with production and operations teams to improve cost visibility
- Supporting the year-end audit and preparing working papers
- Getting involved in ad hoc projects and process improvements across the finance function
- Qualified or part-qualified (CIMA, ACCA or ACA)
- Management accounting experience, ideally in manufacturing or another stock-heavy environment
- Hands-on VAT experience, including preparing and submitting returns
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with an ERP system
- Someone who can explain the numbers clearly to non-finance people
- A proactive approach and the confidence to challenge and improve how things are done
- Salary of up to £55,000
