Opportunity

Due to ongoing project delivery requirements, our client is seeking an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join a major industrial project in Hull. This is an opportunity to take a leading commercial role on a complex programme, ensuring accurate measurement, valuation, forecasting and recovery of project costs while supporting successful project delivery.

Working closely with project leadership, commercial and delivery teams, you will provide commercial oversight across all stages of the project lifecycle. This role offers significant responsibility, exposure to senior stakeholders and the opportunity to influence commercial outcomes on a high value engineering and construction project.

Your duties and responsibilities will be
  • Take day to day responsibility for the commercial management of the project.
  • Maintain a detailed understanding of the project scope, contract requirements, pricing structure and commercial assumptions.
  • Provide commercial advice and guidance to project and delivery teams.
  • Identify and elevate commercial risks, opportunities and contractual issues.
  • Lead the measurement and valuation of completed works in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Ensure quantities are accurately measured and supported by relevant records, drawings and calculations.
  • Maintain robust measurement and valuation records to support commercial entitlement.
  • Reconcile contract quantities, measured quantities, completed works, applications and forecast quantities.
  • Identify and assess quantity growth, reductions and associated commercial impacts.
  • Prepare and manage applications for payment, ensuring accurate valuation and contractual recovery.
  • Monitor certified values, cash received and outstanding balances.
  • Own and maintain detailed cost forecasts, cost to complete assessments and estimate at completion reporting
  • Reconcile actual and committed costs against budgets and project performance.
  • Identify emerging cost trends and support mitigation actions.
  • Support and contribute to change management activities, ensuring the commercial implications of scope changes are accurately assessed.
  • Ensure compensation events and approved changes are reflected in forecasts, applications and commercial records.
  • Lead the commercial management of subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Manage subcontract applications, valuations, variations, liabilities, accruals and final accounts.
  • Maintain contemporaneous records to support measurement, change control and contractual entitlement.
  • Support procurement activities and commercial assessment of subcontract and supply packages.
  • Manage commercial risks and opportunities and support recovery strategies where required.
  • Produce accurate commercial reports covering cost, value, change, risk, forecast and project performance.
  • Provide leadership, support and guidance to Quantity Surveyors and commercial team members.
  • Drive commercial close out activities and support timely agreement of final accounts.
You will have the following qualifications & experience
  • Significant Quantity Surveying or commercial management experience within engineering, construction, energy or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong practical knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts.
  • Experience working under NEC Option B contracts.
  • Demonstrable experience in the measurement and valuation of complex construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of compensation events and change management processes.
  • Experience managing subcontractor accounts from procurement through to final account.
  • Strong cost control, forecasting and financial reporting capability.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, scope documents, bills of quantities and commercial schedules.
