Acute kidney services are provided centrally in Hull, with weekly outreach clinics and chronic satellite haemodialysis support to Grimsby and Scunthorpe, with fortnightly clinics in Goole, weekly clinics in Bridlington with support to the Bridlington Satellite unit. We have also expanded our inpatient service to facilitate haemodialysis for long term patients at Castle Hill Hospital.
HUTH NHS Trust has successfully worked in partnership with Fresenius to provide haemodialysis for long term haemodialysis patients throughout the service including plasma exchange.
Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust provides care for patients both pre and post transplantation. Although the actual transplant episode is carried out in Leeds, the pre transplant work up and all post-transplant after care at the point of discharge from Leeds is carried out in Hull and its satellite clinics.
The locally employed ST4+ doctor will work in three clinical areas; the 19 bed nephrology ward (ward 50), with the renal outreach team providing supervision of patients with Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) on the ICU and medical wards and lastly general medical patients on outlying wards.
.
All specialist registrars will have an outpatient commitment and have the opportunity to attend Transplant, Transplant Work-up, Low Clearance, Haemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis clinics as well as General Nephrology clinics. The details of the rotation are organised after consideration of the training needs of the staff involved. The Consultant working patterns are closely integrated, and a similar level of mutual support and team-working is required from the middle grade staff.
Inpatient work includes day to day supervision of the junior medical staff on ward 50, review of referrals prior to discussion with the Consultants and attendance on Consultant ward rounds, renal procedures (insertion of dialysis catheters, native and transplant kidney biopsy). Outpatient clinics are held at Hull Royal Infirmary, with weekly outreach clinics at Scunthorpe, Grimsby, Bridlington and fortnightly Goole clinics.
These Clinics are Consultant led. All training needs are met centrally in Hull.
The Humber Health Partnership is one of the largest acute and community Partnership arrangements in the NHS, seeing well over one million patients every year and managing a budget of over £1.3 billion.
Made up of two Trusts - Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLAG) and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (HUTH) - our Partnership has significant ambitions and is committed to delivering world‑class hospital and community services for the 1.65 million people we serve.
Together we employ nearly 20,000 staff. Our five main hospital sites are Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, Scunthorpe General Hospital and Goole and District Hospital, for NLAG and Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital for HUTH.
As Teaching Hospitals working with the Hull York Medical School, we both lead and contribute to research in many areas - biomedical research, primary care, palliative medicine, cardiovascular and respiratory medicine, vascular surgery, cancer surgery and oncology.
We believe that by developing a diverse, inclusive, innovative, skilled and caring workforce, we can deliver excellent care to our patients and a great future for our employees, our Partnership and our community.
