Purpose of the Role

To provide academic tuition and support to Academy players, particularly those undertaking BTEC Sport qualifications.

The successful candidate will support learners in achieving their academic targets, monitor progress, contribute to individual learning support and provide meaningful feedback to each player.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach and be responsible for quality teaching and learning of BTEC Diploma Level 3 in Sport to the scholarship groups aged 16 – 18 to meet the course learning outcomes
  • Maintain all appropriate records and report regularly on the EMS & LMS system
  • Monitor and support the overall progress and development of students as their teacher
  • Maintain a positive learning environment across the subject and using subject behaviour management procedures as appropriate.
  • Ensure that work is marked in accordance with the education provider (LFE & Premier League) guidelines to ensure timely feedback to students.
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate records/data related to target grades, attainment, achievement and attendance.
  • Participate in programme meetings in accordance with Head of Education
  • Support learners in understanding course content, assignment requirements and assessment criteria.
  • Encourage positive learning behaviours, engagement and academic achievement.
  • Adapt teaching and support strategies to meet the individual needs of learners.
Monitoring and Reporting
  • Monitor learner attendance, engagement and academic progress
  • Complete and maintain accurate reviews in line with provider
  • Support the tracking of learner progress against agreed academic targets.
  • Identify learners requiring additional intervention and communicate concerns appropriately.
Learner Development
  • Support learners in developing effective study skills, organisation and independent learning habits.
  • Promote high standards of professionalism, behaviour and commitment to education.
  • Encourage learners to take responsibility for their own academic development.
  • Provide positive mentoring and guidance to support educational success.
Academy Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with the Head of Education and wider Academy staff.
  • Support the Academy’s educational aims and objectives.
  • Attend relevant meetings, training and CPD opportunities as required.
  • Promote the values, vision and culture of Hull City Academy.
Person Specification Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Strong subject knowledge relevant to BTEC Sport qualifications.
  • Experience supporting young people within an educational environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with students working towards ambitious academic targets.
  • Excellent planning, organisation and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with young people, schools and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Positive, flexible and proactive approach to work.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Experience delivering or supporting BTEC Sport qualifications.
  • Teaching, tutoring or learning support qualification.
  • Experience working within a football academy or elite sporting environment.
  • Understanding of post-16 education and learner support strategies.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding requirements within sport and education.
