GSL Education Hull Branch are currently seeking a Teacher of English to work in a specialist educational setting in Hull, supporting GCSE students aged 15-19. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated teacher who can make English accessible and engaging for learners who may have experienced barriers to education.
Teacher of English Role:The successful Teacher of English will deliver engaging and appropriately challenging lessons to GCSE-aged learners, helping them develop their English Language and Literature knowledge, literacy and confidence. You will create a calm, structured and supportive classroom environment while adapting your teaching to meet individual learning needs.
Teacher of English Responsibilities:- Plan and deliver engaging English lessons appropriate for GCSE students aged 15–19.
- Teach and support learners with GCSE English Language and Literature content, as required.
- Adapt lessons, resources and teaching strategies to meet a range of individual learning needs.
- Build positive relationships with learners and encourage confidence, motivation and consistent engagement.
- Assess pupils’ work, provide constructive feedback and monitor progress towards their learning goals.
- Maintain a calm, inclusive and purposeful classroom environment, supporting positive behaviour and high expectations.
- QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Strong subject knowledge and confidence teaching GCSE English to learners aged 15–19.
- Previous experience teaching secondary or post-16 learners is desirable.
- Experience supporting young people with additional needs, barriers to learning or challenging behaviour would be advantageous.
- Patient, adaptable and resilient approach, with strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
- An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years with explanations for any gaps
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
