Elevations Design & Projects team are working with a genuine market leader based in Humberside in their search for a Senior Draughtsperson this year. The role will be responsible for leading and coordinating a local technical design team to ensure engineering outputs meet business, production, and compliance requirements.
This role combines hands-on technical expertise with full oversight, acting as the primary technical authority for structural and mechanical design activities within the site. The position supports product development, manufacturing optimisation, automation initiatives, compliance, and continuous improvement, while ensuring engineering standards and delivery targets are consistently achieved.
Senior Draughtsman Key Responsibilities:Technical & Engineering DeliveryProvide technical leadership across mechanical and structural design, development, and documentation.
Take responsibility for technical approvals and formal design sign-off in line with applicable standards and compliance frameworks.
Ensure all drawings and technical outputs are delivered on time and to the required quality, escalating risks where necessary.
Collaborate with remote and international engineering teams to resolve design challenges and support project delivery.
Support and drive automation and manufacturing improvement initiatives, including joining, fabrication, and assembly processes.
Promote best practice use of CAD and design automation tools, with a focus on increasing efficiency, consistency, and reuse.
Champion continuous improvement across engineering processes, systems, and ways of working.
Ensure bills of materials, routings, and production data are accurate, maintained, and aligned with manufacturing requirements.
Act as a key stakeholder in engineering and manufacturing change decisions.
Manage engineering change processes, ensuring changes are controlled, approved, and implemented effectively.
Ensure engineering documentation, systems, and standards are regularly reviewed and kept current.
Work closely with production, quality, planning, procurement, and commercial teams to support operational objectives.
Engage directly with customers and external stakeholders, supporting development discussions, reviews, and project meetings both on-site and off-site when required.
Strong mechanical engineering background supported by relevant qualifications and/or extensive practical experience.
Proven experience in structural or mechanical design, including compliance and manufacturing considerations.
Advanced 3D CAD capability, with strong experience in parametric design and configuration tools highly desirable.
Working knowledge of 2D CAD systems.
Experience using ERP systems for BOMs, routings, and engineering change management.
Confident user of standard office software, including spreadsheet and document tools.
Exposure to manufacturing automation and process improvement initiatives is advantageous.
Previous experience in a supervisory, senior, or team leadership role within a technical environment.
Strong organisational, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Practical, adaptable, and solutions-focused approach to problem-solving.
Strong understanding of health and safety expectations within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
High standards of accuracy, professionalism, and accountability.
