Lead Engineer – Mechanical Bias

Location:

Hull, HU3 2JZ

Hours:

Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 16:00

We are currently seeking a professional Lead Engineer, Mechanical Biased, based at the Women & Children’s Hospital in Hull. The Lead Engineer (Mechanical Bias) will be responsible for the effective delivery of mechanical engineering services within a hospital environment, leadership of engineering activities, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards and maintaining critical systems to support patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Team leadership and project management across multiple hospital sites.
  • Lead and oversee all mechanical engineering activities on-site, ensuring systems operate efficiently and safely.
  • Maintain, service and repair mechanical systems including HVAC, heating, hot water, steam and pressure systems.
  • Maintain medical gas pipeline systems (desirable).
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, HTM, and hospital‑specific standards.
  • Carry out PPM and reactive maintenance tasks.
  • Diagnose faults and implement solutions to minimise downtime.
  • Support lifecycle planning and asset management activities.
Skills & Experience
  • Strong mechanical engineering background within building services.
  • Experience in a healthcare or critical environment.
  • Experience with PPM systems and reactive maintenance.
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Ability to fault‑find and problem solve under pressure.
  • Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of HTM guidelines and statutory compliance.
  • Experience with medical gas systems.
  • Knowledge of BMS (Building Management Systems).
  • Experience working across multiple sites.
  • Previous experience in a Lead Engineer role.
Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Recognised apprenticeship in a relevant discipline.
  • IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification (desirable).
  • AP/CP status (preferred but not essential).

  • Live within a 30 minute radius of the hospital.
