Senior Manager, Hull Integrity
This role is hybrid, based in Weybridge, UK.
The Senior Manager, Hull Integrity & Lifecycle is responsible for the structural integrity, coating performance, and corrosion protection of the Royal Caribbean Group fleet throughout the vessel lifecycle. Operating within Marine Asset Management, the role provides the structural and coating technical layer that supports fleet-wide lifecycle planning, dry-dock scope development, and proactive asset preservation across approximately 70 vessels.
This position manages Steel Condition Assessment (SCA) programs, fleet-wide coating strategies, and tank maintenance operations, ensuring proactive monitoring and mitigation of hull degradation, corrosion, and coating breakdown. The role serves as the technical authority on structural matters to both shipboard and shore-based teams, working in close coordination with Marine Technical Operations (Tech Ops) for execution, Dry-Dock Planning for scope integration, and the broader Asset Management function for lifecycle cost analysis and capital planning.
A central requirement is ensuring that structural and coating condition data feeds into AMOS and the dry-dock module to enable data-driven planning, budgeting, and fleet-wide benchmarking. The role bridges technical assessment with commercial and lifecycle decision-making, consistent with Asset Management’s cross‑functional coordination mandate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Steel Condition Assessment & Hull Integrity Management- Develop and manage fleet-wide Steel Condition Assessment (SCA) schemes, establishing risk‑based inspection programs that account for vessel age, service profile, structural history, and classification society survey cycles.
- Define inspection methodologies including ultrasonic thickness (UT) measurement strategies, visual inspection standards, and condition rating systems standardized across the fleet.
- Monitor corrosion rates, structural fatigue indicators, and critical structural areas across all vessel classes, maintaining centralized databases of steel condition, trends, and risk ratings.
- Define repair strategies and steel renewal scopes for dry‑dock execution in close collaboration with Marine Technical Operations, ensuring technical input is provided to the Senior Manager, Dry‑Dock Planning for scope coordination and budget integration.
- Lead dialogue with external UTM vendors, ensuring sufficient follow‑up on measurement campaigns in coordination with Tech Ops stakeholders.
- Provide structural condition data and lifecycle projections into AMOS‑X and the dry‑dock module to support proactive planning, budgeting, and the 1‑in‑5 dry‑dock initiative.
- Develop and implement fleet‑wide coating management strategies for hull, ballast/grey tanks, void spaces, and critical structural areas.
- Define coating specifications, selection standards, and application procedures, interfacing with coating manufacturers and suppliers for product evaluation and performance benchmarking.
- Monitor coating condition, breakdown mechanisms, and performance trends, establishing inspection and rating methodologies (e.g., coating condition index) integrated with steel condition assessments to drive corrosion risk modelling.
- Define maintenance strategies including spot repairs, full recoating, and preservation programs, with clear lifecycle cost justification.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards including IMO Performance Standards for Protective Coatings (PSPC) for ballast tanks.
- Provide steel renewal and coating scope input to the Senior Manager, Dry‑Dock Planning for integration into consolidated dry‑dock specifications and budgets.
- Optimize sequencing of steel and coating works to reduce cost, schedule impact, and vessel out‑of‑service time.
- Support onboard inspections and supervise critical repair and coating activities during dry‑dock periods.
- Ensure QA/QC for coating application including surface preparation, dry film thickness (DFT) measurement, and environmental condition compliance.
- Evaluate contractor and shipyard performance on steel and coating quality, providing…
