Switchboard Operator

Overview

The switchboard service is essential to the smooth running of the operation of our hospitals at both Castle Hill Hospital and Hull Royal Infirmary, which is one of 27 Major Trauma Centres in England.

You will be responsible for handling calls in a professional manner, enabling patients and colleagues to get through to the right number. Responding effectively to emergency calls, alarm activations and incident procedures in a calm and professional manner.

Additional training will also be given on the Portering and non-patient transport desk which also operates from the switchboard area.

Scunthorpe General Hospital and Goole and District Hospital for NLAG; and Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital for HUTH.

As teaching hospitals working with the Hull York Medical School, we both lead and contribute to research in many areas – biomedical research, primary care, palliative medicine, cardiovascular and respiratory medicine, vascular surgery, cancer surgery and oncology.

The post is to cover a rotational shift pattern on a full‑time basis. You will be required to work a shift pattern that includes early, evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays with unsocial hours enhancements (as per NHS employee terms and conditions). Flexibility is key as the team operates 365 days, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
