Job Title: Underwriter - Hull and War
Division: Hull and War
Reports To: Focus Group Leader, Hull and War
Key Relationships: Brokers, Underwriters, Claims Staff, Other Staff, Coverholders, External Clients and Suppliers
Job Summary:
To underwrite Hull and War accounts within the Hull and War Team, providing counsel and advice on underwriting-related issues. Offer technical expertise in this business area and maintain and enhance the market reputation of the Beazley brand.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and underwrite a profitable portfolio of Hull and War business as part of the team.
- Structure tailor-made solutions considering underwriting parameters, policies, and using knowledge and experience to win new business and retain existing clients.
- Monitor premiums, costs, and claims ratios per contract; take corrective measures if necessary to ensure long-term profitability.
- Evaluate appropriate risk premiums considering risk costs, reinsurance cessions, capital exposure, and costs, using rating models as applicable.
- Monitor peer underwriters' work to ensure profitability and efficient account administration.
- Supervise assistants to ensure compliance with underwriting philosophy, policy, and team consistency.
- Comply with Beazley's underwriting control standards for business written through Lloyd's or Beazley's internal MGAs.
- Develop good relationships with claims managers for this business class.
- Produce business plans/research documents for the M&A account as required.

- Minimum graduate level education
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient underwriting skills
- Accurate and numerate
- Good knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

- Time management, deadline adherence, and prioritization skills
