AEGIS London is seeking an Underwriting Analyst to join our Specialty division in a unique role supporting both our Upstream Energy and Marine Hull & War underwriting teams. Working closely with experienced Underwriters, you will analyse complex risks, evaluate submissions, interpret data, and provide insights that support sound underwriting decisions and appropriate risk pricing in line with underwriting guidelines. Duties and Accountabilities
  • Data entry: capture risk details in AEGILITY (our underwriting workbench), ensuring policy information is processed correctly and complies with terms provided.
  • Ensure PBQA (pre-bind quality assurance) checks are completed.
  • Data Analysis: support with the collection, organisation and analysis of whole portfolios down to risk level, including financial statements, credit reports and other relevant information.
  • Collaborate with the Actuarial and Data Science teams to utilise statistical models and underwriting tools to evaluate risks and monitor trends.
  • Market research: work with the team to stay updated on industry trends, market conditions and regulatory changes that may impact underwriting decisions. Support with research and analysis to identify emerging risks and opportunities.
  • Relationship management: collaborate with other areas of the business, such as Claims, Operations and Exposure Management, to gather relevant information and ensure effective communication throughout the underwriting process. Begin to build and maintain relationships with external partners such as brokers and clients to facilitate information exchange, manage credit control issues and contribute to underwriting decisions.
  • Process improvements: contribute with insights as the team continuously evaluate and look to enhance underwriting processes and workflows. Identify opportunities for automation, efficiency improvements and streamlined data management to enhance productivity and accuracy.
  • Prepare documentation and reports for more senior members of the team to present at both internal and external meetings including peer reviews, reinsurance presentations and business planning.
  • Assist with conducting estimated premium income reviews on the portfolio.
  • Provide assistance to the team when required in respect of any internal/external audits.
  • Provide general support to the wider team, such as ad‑hoc tasks or projects as they arise.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience
  • Foundational understanding of insurance principles, underwriting guidelines/regulations and risk assessment methodologies (beneficial but not essential).
  • Computer literate (essential). May have experience in data analysis tools and software such as Excel, SQL or statistical modelling software (beneficial but not essential).
  • Analytical and problem‑solving skills; interested in using a range of data in order to make decisions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data analysis and documentation.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team managing multiple priorities and adhering to deadlines.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and business needs.
