Strategic Health & Safety Trustee

As Trustee for Health and Safety, you will provide strategic oversight, assurance and guidance to help the charity meet its statutory obligations, manage risk proportionately and maintain safe environments for staff, volunteers, service users and visitors. As a member of the Board, you will also help guide SDR’s strategy, support good governance, ensure the charity remains solvent, well run and upholds its mission and objectives.

• Experience in health and safety, risk management, compliance, facilities, or a related field.
• Sound judgment, strong communication skills, and a collaborative approach.
• Commitment to good governance and constructive oversight.
• Genuine interest in our mission, values, and the welfare of the dogs in our care.

• Experience in health and safety management, risk assessment, compliance, facilities or a related field.
• Strong analytical and communication skills, with confidence engaging a wide range of stakeholders.
• Ability to interpret legislation and translate it into proportionate, practical governance advice.
• Commitment to the charity’s mission and values.
• A collaborative approach and willingness to work closely with trustees, employees and volunteers.
• Commitment to confidentiality, integrity and high ethical standards.
• Enthusiasm for the charity’s mission, with the ability to give the time and energy needed for the role.

• Attend monthly evening Board meetings and the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
• Participate in ad‑‑ meetings, contribute proactively to projects and fundraising. initiatives, and commit the necessary time and effort to fulfil your responsibilities as a Trustee.
• Collaborate with fellow trustees, staff, and volunteers to support the charity’s goals
• Subscribe to membership of the charity.
• Visit the centre when required to stay connected with our operations and the dogs in our care.

• An average of 7–10 hours per month, with some natural variation from month to month.
