Ward C29 in the Queens Centre has an exciting opportunity for a committed, experienced and aspiring nurse to lead an established enthusiastic nursing team who already provide high standards of holistic nursing care to patients with cancer who have a variety of medical, nursing and psychological needs. C29 is a 15 bedded Oncology ward based the Queens Centre.

The ward sister/charge nurse will be a motivated enthusiastic person with excellent leadership and communication skills. The ward sister/charge nurse will be a role model leading the team by example to deliver caring compassionate end of life care to the patient.

The ward sister/charge nurse will be able to work to their own initiative, leading, developing, improving and monitoring standards of care to ensure safety for all patients and staff. As the ward sister/charge nurse will have 24hr responsibility to ensure patient safety and safe staffing on the ward, they will be actively involved in recruitment, retention and managing sickness absence.

The new post holder will be supported in their role and will be given the opportunity to achieve their full potential as a competent and effective ward sister/charge nurse.

Main duties of the job

Ward band 7, post. Please refer to the Job Description. The ward sister/charge nurse will be an inclusive proactive member of the senior nursing team within specialist services.

They will oversee staff development and ensure the ward KPIs are achieved according to the trusts compliance levels.

The ward sister/charge nurse will work collaboratively with the members of the multidisciplinary team to provide a quality service for our patients. They should have knowledge of the complex discharge process and be able to work collaboratively with internal colleagues and external agencies to provide seamless and safe discharge.

Person Specification Education/ Qualifications
  • RGN Qualification.
  • Active on the NMC register.
  • At least 2 years at Band 6 level.
  • SACT - Chemotherapy competent qualification.
  • Enhanced communication course.
Knowledge, Training & Experience
  • Experience (through placements or employment) of working in a busy environment.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
  • Shows desire and capability to develop in nursing care…
