Senior Veterinary Surgeon – Brand-New Veterinary Hospital | Hull

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead Veterinary Surgeon to play a key role in the launch of a brand-new veterinary hospital in Hull, scheduled to open in January 2027. This new hospital will expand access to affordable, high-quality veterinary care for pets and their owners throughout East Yorkshire.

The new 24-hour hospital will provide round-the-clock emergency and inpatient care, supporting both its own clients and local veterinary practices.

The successful candidate will join the hospital from its very beginning, helping to establish a positive culture and high clinical standards. Working alongside the Practice Manager and Lead Veterinary Nurse, the Lead Veterinary Surgeon will oversee the clinical team, providing guidance, coaching and mentorship while ensuring exceptional patient care. They will also contribute to the day-to-day management of the hospital, supporting business performance through the review of key performance indicators and financial outcomes.

This position would suit a confident veterinary surgeon with strong clinical experience and a genuine enthusiasm for developing both colleagues and the practice. Previous leadership experience is desirable, including mentoring team members, leading clinical meetings, carrying out performance reviews and promoting clinical governance. A VetGDP Adviser qualification would be advantageous, although support is available for those wishing to gain this accreditation.

An interest in the commercial aspects of practice management would also be welcomed.

The full-time rota consists of 40 hours across four days each week, with participation in a 2 in 9 weekend rota, allowing for an excellent work-life balance while working within a busy hospital environment.

  • Alongside a competitive salary, the role offers an attractive benefits package including six weeks' annual leave, funded CPD, payment of RCVS and VDS memberships, private healthcare enhanced maternity and paternity pay, contributory pension, visa sponsorship, employee discounts, an employee assistance programme and up to 52 weeks of sickness benefit.

This is a rare opportunity to join a growing organisation at the start of an exciting new venture, helping to shape a purpose-built hospital while making a meaningful difference to the lives of pets, their owners and the local community.
