Salary Range: $35,996 - $48,397 (pay based on education, experience, certifications, etc.)
Assists the Pharmacist in the preparation of prescriptions as permitted by state law. Maintains good customer service by accepting prescriptions or refill requests, processing sales and answering questions for customers. Achieves customer satisfaction by promptly processing prescriptions and sales transactions. Other duties include stocking and pricing over‑the‑counter (OTC) items, maintaining the OTC areas, processing clinic medication requisitions, and other duties as required by the pharmacist.
ResponsibilitiesProvide medication and counseling support to patients while ensuring accurate and timely pharmacy operations in a fast‑paced environment.
QualificationsEducation (Required):
- High school diploma or GED from an accredited program (Pharmacy Technician I)
- High school diploma or equivalent (Pharmacy Technician II)
Experience (Required):
- Pharmacy Technician I – Minimum 6 months pharmacy tech experience OR prior experience as a pharmacy service representative.
- Pharmacy Technician II – Minimum 2‑4 years retail pharmacy experience OR completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program.
Experience (Preferred):
- Pharmacy Technician I – Minimum 2‑4 years pharmacy tech experience OR completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program; HMO and 3rd‑party managed care experience.
- Pharmacy Technician II – HMO and 3rd‑party managed care experience.
License(s) (Required): TSBP Registration.
Preferred: PTCB Certification.
Communication
Skills:
Required – Read merchandise labels and invoices; ask and answer questions over the phone; write information on prescriptions; communicate with customers about complaints and problems. Preferred – Know when to refer questions, problems, and complaints to a pharmacist.
Special
Skills:
Required – Operate computer terminal for processing prescriptions; perform math cash handling (add, subtract, make change); complete daily cash report; type 20 WPM. Preferred – 10‑key by touch.
Other Requirements: Stress tolerance to receive prescriptions and ring up sales in a fast‑paced environment; physical stamina to work in a fast‑paced environment and maneuver around the pharmacy.
