About the Role

The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) plays a critical role in supporting healthcare teams by safely administering medications to patients under the supervision of licensed nursing staff. This position ensures that patients receive their prescribed medications accurately and on time, contributing directly to their health and well-being. The CMA is responsible for monitoring patients for any adverse reactions or side effects and reporting these promptly to nursing supervisors.

Additionally, the role involves maintaining detailed and accurate medication records in compliance with healthcare regulations and facility policies. Through compassionate patient interaction and meticulous attention to detail, the CMA helps enhance the overall quality of care within healthcare and social assistance settings.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current certification as a Medication Aide or equivalent credential recognized by Texas. (Certified Medication Aide
    - Medical Assistants do not qualify) & current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of medication administration principles and healthcare safety standards.
  • Ability to pass background checks and meet health screening requirements.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients and healthcare team members.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working in a healthcare or long-term care facility.
  • 6 months experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in a long-term care facility.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medication administration software.
  • Additional certifications in patient care or healthcare support roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
Responsibilities
  • Administer prescribed medications to patients following established protocols and under the supervision of licensed nurses.
  • Monitor patients for side effects or adverse reactions and communicate observations to nursing staff promptly.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medication administration records and documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Assist with patient care activities as directed, including basic health monitoring and reporting changes in patient condition.
  • Ensure medication storage areas are organized, secure, and comply with safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in ongoing training and competency evaluations to maintain certification and stay current with best practices.
