Position: Paramedic (PRN)

About the Role

Townsen Memorial Hospital is looking for a PRN Paramedic to join our team! The Paramedic is responsible for assisting in the delivery of patient care and services to defined patient groups and their families under the direction of the Registered Nurse and/or Medical Director.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates competence in the clinical skills required for patient care, including accurate patient identification using standardized protocols and resolving discrepancies prior to care.
  • Performs and records diagnostic measures, treatment and procedures as determined by skills training and validation (e.g., vital signs, 12‑lead EKG, phlebotomy, I.V. catheter insertion, splinting, specimen collection, immobilization by backboard, extrication from vehicles) in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Observes patients, making hourly rounds for condition changes, and reports observations and problems to the licensed nurse; repeats vital signs according to policy and accompanies high‑risk patients out of the department as delegated.
  • Records all aspects of care administered, including height, weight, allergies, and medication lists, in the patient medical record; maintains accurate and up‑to‑date patient records, including medication history, lab specimen collection, identification labels and patient valuables.
  • Maintains an orderly environment that facilitates access to supplies, equipment, and resource information; assists with inventory, monitoring and ordering supplies and medical equipment to maintain par levels.
  • Functions as a team member, responding willingly to colleagues’ needs for assistance and partnership.
  • Coordinates the patient workflow, problem‑solves, directs other techs, and manages several ongoing priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Accurately sorts patients by severity upon arrival, initiating and notifying the Medical Director/R.N. of patients requiring immediate attention.
  • Demonstrates customer service standards, including smiles, eye contact, greetings, appropriate body language, and daily effort to surpass visitor expectations while honoring diversity and thanking each customer.
  • Follows all safety rules on the job, reports accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards.
  • Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace.
  • Uses downtime efficiently, remains aware of team members’ workloads, and offers assistance positively.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to respond quickly, physically, and mentally to changing priorities and patient conditions.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to maintain records accurately.
  • Ability to clean, maintain, and make minor adjustments to equipment.
  • Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow.
  • Excellent, polished patient interaction skills and professional communication with patients.
  • Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette.
Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Graduate from a Paramedic training program.
  • Licensed Paramedic with active, unencumbered licensure while employed.
  • One (1) year experience in a hospital or surgery center.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certified.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified.
