PRN Registered Nurse PACU
Townsen Memorial Hospital is looking for a PRN Registered Nurse PACU to join our team!
The PRN Registered Nurse PACU is responsible for admitting patients to the clinical area and providing nursing care to the post-operative patient, as well as developing a nursing care plan specifically designed for the individual patient. The staffing of the Center is based on a teamwork concept. Employees may be cross trained in other clinical areas and may be expected to perform duties other than their normal ones as staffing and patient needs change.
The PRN position requires a minimum of two shifts completed per month.
- Admits patients to recovery unit after surgery
- Develops and maintains an effective working relationship with patients, families, visitors, and other center employees
- Provides instructions to patients as advised by physician or physician assistant
- Educates patients and families, explains nursing procedures and actions taken to help reduce anxiety
- Composes initial assessment, determines the nursing needs of the patient, and identifies patient’s physical and mental status
- Documents patient care delivered concisely, precisely, and accurately on all records or documentation as indicated by policy
- Monitors the patient’s medical condition and reports any significant changes to the admitting physician or anesthesiologist
- Completes patient care responsibilities and implements doctor’s orders in a timely and accurate manner
- Communicates additional discharge needs when applicable (transportation, durable medical equipment)
- Performs post‑op calls to patients
- Protects patient and family privacy rights by maintaining confidentiality of patient records in accordance with HIPAA requirements, policy and procedure
- Plans for routine events, anticipates/prevents and manages/evaluates emergent situations
- Ensures the post‑operative area maintains a clean and therapeutic environment for all patients consistently
- Ensures supplies and equipment needed are available and in good working order
- Follows all safety rules, reports all accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards
- Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace
- Maintains established center/departmental policies and procedures
- Adheres to the company standards of business conduct
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Understands and maintains clinical competencies (general, age specific and drug administration)
- Demonstrates clinical problem solving and critical thinking
- Strong attention to detail: being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
- Makes decisions using evidence‑based analytical approach
- Ability to work independently by guiding oneself with little or no supervision
- Ability to adequately diagnose, plan and implement nursing interventions and evaluate patient condition.
- Ability to adapt to considerable variety, unexpected changes (positive or negative) and respond quickly, physically and mentally when priorities and/or the patient’s condition change.
- Demonstrates self‑control to maintain composure, keeping emotions in check, controlling anger, and avoiding aggressive behavior, even in difficult situations and high stress situations
- Ability to accept criticism and respond calmly and effectively
- Ability to maintain compliance with facility policies and procedures
- Ability to sustain compliance with continuing and mandatory education programs
- Practices nursing within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act of Texas and accepts responsibility and accountability for own actions
- Exceptional customer service, phone etiquette and possesses excellent, professionally polished patient interaction communication skills
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word and EMR
- Ability to maintain effective and organized systems and records to ensure timely patient flow
- Ability to clean, maintain, and make minor adjustments to equipment
- Ability to respond positively to requests for assistance from other team members
- Ability to be enthusiastic with a desire to learn and develop new skills.
- Effectively acclimate to various work schedules to achieve high quality of care
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing or related field
- Registered Nurse in the State of Texas;
License must remain active and unencumbered while employed - Current BLS, ACLS and PALS
- Two (2) years of experience in a PACU or ICU environment
- Must complete additional educational requirements as assigned by due dates
Compensation to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
Employment for this position is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and drug screening.
