Purpose: The Pet Stylist s primary purpose is to perform expert-level professional grooming services, including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning. The Pet Stylist prioritizes the safety, comfort, and well-being of the pets in our care and delivers a high level of customer satisfaction and service to pet parents. This role may involve additional tasks as assigned by the Grooming Salon Leader, Solutions Manager, or Store General Manager.

This is an excellent opportunity for groomers with proven technical experience to grow their expertise.

• Under moderate to limited supervision, perform professional grooming services (bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, gland cleaning) according to pet parent instructions and adhering to breed standards and company policies and procedures
• Operate and maintain grooming instruments (clippers, blades, shears, brushes, dryers)
• Prioritize the well-being and safety of every animal in the salon; monitor for signs of discomfort, illness or injury and report concerns to pet owners and store management
• Evaluate each pet s needs (coat type, skin conditions, temperament) and tailor grooming accordingly

• Interact professionally with pet parents; provide excellent customer service, address inquiries, offer grooming recommendations, and resolve questions or concerns
• Educate and provide custom recommendations on grooming maintenance and at-home care to promote pet well-being
• Maintain a clean and safe grooming area; disinfect and sanitize tools, perform cleaning duties, and follow hygiene policies
• Adhere to Petco s grooming policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure safety, quality, and consistency
• May train, support, and supervise entry-level trainees in the absence of a Grooming Salon Leader

• Successful completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or previous experience as a professional groomer and/or completion of a technical grooming training program
• High-school diploma or GED preferred, though not required
• Ability to make independent judgments and solve problems in routine to moderately complex situations, with guidance when needed
• Results-driven with commitment to productivity and ownership of the role
• Strong attention to detail; grooming services executed accurately and to high standards
• Genuine passion for animals and desire to continue a career in grooming
• Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, common health issues and behaviors
• High proficiency in breed-specific cuts, styling techniques, and grooming standards
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for interactions with pet parents and the grooming team
• Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy
• Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required by the grooming schedule

The majority of duties are performed indoors in the grooming salon. This role involves bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and long periods of standing. May require use of a two-step ladder for cleaning duties. A significant portion of time is spent in direct contact with pet parents and their dogs; the environment can be noisy and wet.
