Overview:
First Military Recruitment are seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician to support the build, test and commissioning of refuelling equipment. This role is focused on low volume manufacturing and engineering builds, working from P and IDs, general arrangement drawings and detailed assembly documentation.
You will assemble high pressure mechanical systems, install and connect small bore tubing, mount and connect instrumentation, and support functional and pressure testing of hydrogen systems. The role requires strong mechanical competence, attention to detail and a clear understanding of the safety implications of working with compressed gases.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Assemble mechanical systems and sub assemblies in line with engineering drawings, P and IDs and build procedures
Install small bore tubing systems including tube and thread and twin ferrule fittings
Mount valves, regulators, pressure vessels and associated pipework
Ensure correct torqueing, alignment and mechanical integrity of all assemblies
Install and mechanically connect pressure transmitters, temperature sensors, flow meters and other field instruments
Interpret P and IDs to ensure correct installation and routing
Support loop checks and basic functional verification during test activities
Identify discrepancies between drawings and physical build and raise issues clearly
Assist with pressure testing, leak testing and functional system testing
Record test data accurately and support fault finding activities
Diagnose mechanical or installation related issues and implement corrective actions
Complete build records, inspection reports and test documentation
Maintain traceability of components where required
Support quality inspections and audits
Contribute to continuous improvement of build processes
Work safely with high pressure hydrogen systems
Follow procedures relating to pressure systems and hazardous areas
Identify and report unsafe conditions
Support compliance with relevant UK and EU standards
Work closely with engineering, project management and operations
Provide practical feedback to engineering based on build experience
Support site installation or commissioning activities where required
Skills and
Qualifications:
Proven experience as a Mechanical or Instrument Technician in a manufacturing or engineering environment
Experience assembling high pressure gas systems or similar process equipment
Competence in small bore tubing installation and ferrule fittings
Ability to read and interpret P and IDs, GA drawings and mechanical schematics
Experience supporting pressure and functional testing
Strong attention to detail and structured approach to work
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Desirable:
Experience in hydrogen systems, compressed gases or process plant
Knowledge of ATEX environments
Comp Ex certification
Experience supporting site installation and commissioning
Experience working in low volume or prototype build environments
