Newell Brands is a leading consumer products company with a portfolio of iconic brands like Graco®, Coleman®, Oster®, Rubbermaid®, Sharpie® and Yankee Candle® - and 24,000 talented teammates around the world. Our culture is built on values in action:
Integrity, Teamwork, Passion for Winning, Ownership, and Leadership. We work together to win, grow, and make a real impact—supported by a high-performing, inclusive, and collaborative environment where you can be your best, every day.

Job Summary:

The Associate Product Development Engineer will work on new product development (NPD) projects for both new and existing small household appliances, building the technical foundation to lead your own projects end to end. You’ll lead smaller-scope NPD projects from concept through production launch — following Newell’s Product Development Process — while partnering closely with Program Management, Marketing, Industrial Design, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Quality and Supply Chain, and picking up the AI-enabled design and engineering tools that are reshaping how our team works.

Some travel may be required.

  • Lead the engineering efforts on smaller-scope NPD projects from concept through production launch, following Newell’s Product Development Process.
  • Support senior engineers on larger, more complex NPD projects to build toward taking on more scope over time.
  • Apply foundational engineering judgment to solve problems and contribute ideas as you build toward independent ownership.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support NPD projects through Newell’s Stage/Gate process, building a working knowledge of each phase and gate.
  • Help estimate new product costs and capital expenses, and contribute to competitive benchmarking.
  • Research existing and emerging technologies used in the industry to inform design decisions.
  • Contribute ideas during ideation sessions and help evaluate their technical feasibility.
  • Flag potential intellectual property considerations early, partnering with more senior engineers and legal as needed.
  • Apply foundational statistical process control (SPC) and process capability concepts to assess whether a design or process is production-ready.
  • Apply DFMEA and/or PFMEA fundamentals, and root-cause and lean problem-solving techniques (including Kaizen), to flag quality risks early.
  • Draft technical documentation for NPD projects, and understand how DFMEA informs DVP&R development.
  • Assess material quality and suitability for new products, and build a working knowledge of the materials used across our product lines.
  • Understand the functional and aesthetic requirements behind a product’s design, and how those requirements translate into engineering decisions.
  • Generate basic CAD models and apply predictive modeling concepts to support engineering decisions — increasingly using AI-assisted design tools.
  • Build a working knowledge of PLM systems, manufacturing equipment, tooling and supplier-selection basics used across our products.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or related field) required.
  • 0-2 years of experience in a related field.
  • Computer literacy in CAD.
  • Familiarity with problem-solving techniques and methodologies.
  • Basic understanding of applicable manufacturing processes.
  • Strong interpersonal and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfort working in a team environment, with openness to AI-assisted design or engineering tools (training provided).

* Please note this position will not be able to support OPT status or sponsor H1B visa.
