Supply Planner

Department: Sector Supply Planning

Reports To: Manager, Supply Planning

Role Description

The Supply Planner plays a key role in developing a time‑phased supply plan for both manufacturing plants & purchase vendors (Make & Buy). Planning horizons and points of contact will differ based on Make vs Buy sourcing. The planners for Make items (Mfg) will generate and manage supply plans in the 0 to 3 month horizon while respecting a frozen horizon (i.e. 0–3 weeks) owned by detailed schedulers in Operations.

Their plan will drive requirements for material planning, scheduling (Operations) and will be used for Deployment Planning. A strong understanding of operations, production capabilities and constraints are needed to build a feasible plan for execution. Planners for Buy items (Vendors) will generate and manage supply plans for a horizon of 0 to lead‑time plus 1–2 months. A strong understanding of vendor constraints, lead‑times and minimum order quantities are needed to build a feasible plan.

All Supply Planners will work in collaboration with Demand Planning, Long Range Supply Planners and Inventory Planners to generate a supply plan that fulfills inventory and service level objectives, while considering space limitations managed through the Newell Service Network team.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Maintain master data in SAP APO & ECC for Supply Planning. Master data includes lot sizing, MOQ, rounding values, Planned Delivery Time, etc.
  • Evaluate system generated supply recommendations (Planned Orders) from the MRP heuristic in APO, and review alerts and exception based tools to identify potential service risks (Tools include Inventory Building Blocks, PSI, Customer Risk Report, etc).
  • Supplement APO recommendations with inputs from Long Range Supply Planner to account for pre‑build and capacity constraints.
  • Buy Planners to create Purchase Orders in ECC to support supply plan in APO, confirm PO’s with the vendors, update PO’s with DHL input.
  • Make Planners to generate a Production Plan in weekly buckets extending a minimum of 3 months, or until the longest material lead‑time, while respecting a frozen schedule time period maintained by detailed schedulers in Operations for sequencing.
  • Participate in S&OE process with regard to management of supply plans in the 0 to 90 day horizon. Activities include expedite, de‑expedite and cancellation of planned supply.
  • Coordinate with Demand Planning & NPD teams to ensure key promotions, new product launches are properly reflected in the supply plan.
  • Collaborate with Newell Service Network to ensure supply plans can be supported in the service centers from a space management perspective. Leverage the DC Space Utilization tool.
  • Contribute and facilitate cross‑functional meetings with manufacturing planning, vendors, sales account management, product category management and inventory planning teams to develop supply plans aligning with other functional needs.
  • Monitor schedule adherence metric and manage manufacturing and sourcing planning exceptions to mitigate impact on customer service levels.
Required Competencies Experience
  • 2+ years of Supply Chain experience (Supply Planning, Materials Planning, Production Planning, Demand Planning and Fulfillment)
  • 2+ years of balancing supply chain resources with supply chain requirements experience
  • 2+ years of capacity constrained supply planning and advanced planning systems
