Job Summary
Pre-Assessment Staff Nurse (Band 5 Registered Nurse) role at Pacomarine Limited. The Trust has implemented a digital pre‑assessment system to standardise clinical assessments across sites, improving service quality and efficiency. The pre‑operative assessment team is nurse‑led and supports elective surgery by ensuring patients are fit and optimised for surgery. The role will pre‑assess scheduled for surgical procedures according to the Trust’s guidelines, policies and procedures;
request and interpret investigations; and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
Cross‑site working will be required – the base location can be discussed at interview.
Responsibilities- Pre‑assess patients scheduled for elective surgery, ensuring all investigations are completed and results are acted upon.
- Request and interpret investigations and tests within scope of practice, escalating as appropriate.
- Provide medication advice to patients in preparation for surgery.
- Complete pre‑assessment for both inpatient and day‑case patients, adhering to service guidelines and policies.
- Refer any health issues identified during pre‑assessment to the appropriate individual or service.
- Supervise Band 3 Healthcare Support Workers performing pre‑assessment tests and investigations.
- Use effective communication skills—negotiation, persuasion, and empathy—to facilitate timely and effective communication within the team, multidisciplinary team, and other departments.
- Current Registered Nurse with the Nurses and Midwives Council (NMC).
- Degree‑level education or equivalent knowledge and skills gained through alternative study or employment experience.
- Evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD).
- Completed clinical placements in a variety of areas.
- Post‑registration experience in an acute setting.
- Working experience with a Multidisciplinary Team.
- Ability to communicate written and verbal information in English, keeping legible and accurate notes.
- Ability to present information, both written and orally, in a clear and logical manner.
- Ability to communicate complex, sensitive and/or confidential information appropriately.
- Teaching/mentorship qualification.
- Pre‑operative assessment course.
- Experience of staff supervision.
- Ability to undertake venepuncture and cannulation or willingness to achieve competency.
