General labor and semi‑skilled building maintenance work. Assists senior‑level maintenance specialists in the performance of skilled maintenance work in the various construction and mechanical systems trades.
Distinguishing Career FeaturesMaintenance Specialist I is the first‑level position requiring generalized experience in building maintenance, grounds, or advanced custodial work. Advancement to Maintenance Specialist II is possible with specialized training in an advanced trade combined with additional experience at the journey level.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Working knowledge of building, grounds, or equipment maintenance sufficient to perform routine maintenance and repair tasks.
- Knowledge of the use, maintenance, and repair of the various tools and equipment used in building maintenance and repair work.
- Understanding of safety rules and regulations.
- Math skills sufficient to record measurements and calculate portions and quantities.
- English language skills to document work assignment details.
- Human relations skills to exhibit positive customer service and work as a contributing member of a team.
- Ability to perform the essential responsibilities and functions of the position.
- Work as a member of a crew and maintain harmonious work relationships.
