The Violence Prevention and Response Program (VPRP) is dedicated to creating and maintaining a safe and respectful campus environment by leading comprehensive and collaborative prevention initiatives, fostering a culture of community responsibility, and offering advocacy and support services to students affected by sexual or interpersonal violence. Our program is seeking a graduate assistant interested in training students how to lead various prevention initiatives, promote community responsibility, and offer support services to victims of sexual and interpersonal violence.

As a graduate assistant, you would assist the VPRP coordinator in training students in the peer education program. Peer educator training will include a 30‑hour course spread over two semesters, and graduate assistants should expect to be present for all 30 hours of the training.

This education‑focused role entails working collaboratively with the Women’s & Gender Center, Wellness Center, Title IX, and other on‑campus and off‑campus community resources. The graduate student should be comfortable developing and facilitating in‑person and virtual educational programming and enjoy working in a student‑focused team environment. Students are expected to work 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities of the Violence Prevention & Response Program Graduate Assistant
  • Assist with triaging students’ needs and connecting them with needed resources.
  • Assist in facilitating in‑person and virtual training sessions for students involved in the peer education program.
  • Assist in providing presentations and activities.
  • Assist in promoting the peer education program.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Some weekend hours are required.
Required Qualifications
  • Eligible applicants must be enrolled as full‑time graduate students in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, and other related fields.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and respect for others’ privacy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent decision‑making and time‑management skills.
  • Strong ability to work with and contribute to a team environment.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs and social media management platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Students seeking degrees in Social Work are preferred.
  • Applicants with previous public speaking, presentation experience, or advocacy training will be given priority.
