The Be HERD Coordinator delivers professional counseling services to Marshall University student‑athletes and general students, managing direct clinical services and key supervisory/administrative responsibilities to advance the Counseling Center’s vision and mission.
Clinical Responsibilities- Provide a comprehensive range of counseling services—including individual, group, and clinical assessments—for Marshall University students and student‑athletes.
- Deliver crisis intervention and triage consultations to students and other members of the university community.
- Hold a caseload of non‑athlete students, offering counseling, psychiatric referrals, assessments, and case management.
- Coordinate and manage referrals for student athletes, ensuring effective connection to appropriate mental health resources and support.
- Facilitate workshops and mental health skills training for student athletes, coaches, and athletic staff.
- Meet deadlines for clinical notes and documentation; participate in the on‑call rotation for crisis intervention.
- Provide other clinical services as assigned, such as additional assessments and consultations.
- Oversee day‑to‑day clinical operations within the Athlete Mental Health Program, ensuring program effectiveness for both athlete and non‑athlete students.
- Assist the Center Director in supervising mental health specialists and interns, ensuring adherence to ethical guidelines and licensure requirements.
- Evaluate the Athlete Mental Health Program through collaborative meetings and chart reviews with Center leadership.
- Organize, schedule, and facilitate counseling relationships for student athletes, matching them with counselors best suited to their needs.
- Monitor incoming data to support effective referral placement and track outcomes for student clients.
- Ensure quarterly surveys are distributed to clients to monitor service quality.
- Plan and oversee annual outreach schedules and programs for Be HERD, serving both the general student body and the Student Athlete Program.
- Organize and deliver training sessions, workshops, and groups for athletic staff, university employees, student athletes, and all students.
- Collaborate directly with player development staff to create and implement a wrap‑around support approach.
- Attend administrative meetings and practice sessions for all sports at Marshall, managing staff assignments across teams.
- Facilitate recruiting events and promote engagement through outreach initiatives.
- Maintain consistency and quality in documentation and adherence to best practices by conducting regular chart reviews.
- Develop and implement data collection tools (such as surveys and assessment checklists) to regularly evaluate the effectiveness of counseling and outreach services for both student athletes and the general student population.
- Gather and analyze quantitative and qualitative data related to mental health outcomes and service utilization, summarizing findings for ongoing program improvement.
- Collaborate with Center leadership to assess performance, monitor emerging needs, and measure progress toward stated program goals and objectives.
- Prepare regular reports reflecting key outcome measures, trends, and recommendations to ensure best practices and guide future programming decisions.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state data reporting standards as required for grant funding and institutional accountability.
$52,105–$67,736 (full time, commensurate with education, experience, and equity review)

Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.
Required Qualifications- Masters degree in a clinical mental health field: psychology, counseling, or social work.
- At least 5 years of experience in a clinical mental health field and must be at least license eligible in the state of West Virginia.
- ALPS credential and other certifications and training.
