Assistant Director of Nursing

Responsibilities

River Park Hospital is a 187‑bed behavioral health facility located in Huntington, WV. The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) reports to the Chief Nursing Officer and is responsible for developing, directing, monitoring, and evaluating nursing care within the psychiatric nursing division. The ADON serves as a resource, guides, counsels, and instructs professional and ancillary nursing personnel, and provides supervision and coverage in the absence of a nurse manager.

Under the general direction of the Chief Nursing Officer, the ADON participates in formulating, implementing, and evaluating hospital, departmental, and program objectives, standards, policies, and procedures. The ADON maintains confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care and information, demonstrates a commitment to meeting the learning needs of patients, families, and staff, and works closely with the CNO and nursing managers to facilitate nursing and educational services.

• Current license to practice nursing in WV (or eligible to receive or renew).
• Current CPR or BLS certification.
• Prefer a minimum of one (1) year nursing supervisory experience including a minimum of six (6) in a mental health setting or related professional setting.
• Develops and maintains a therapeutic relationship throughout the healthcare continuum.
• Participates in formulating, implementing, and evaluating hospital, departmental, and program objectives, standards, policies, and procedures.
• Maintains and protects confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care and information.
• Demonstrates a commitment to meeting the learning needs of patients, families, and staff.
• Utilizes appropriate resources to meet those needs and achieve positive patient or staff outcomes.
• Assists in creating an environment that promotes educational growth opportunities for nursing peers and colleagues.
• Demonstrates the use of the nursing process as a problem‑solving model and mastery of clinical skills related to patient’s mental health and physical health needs.
