DESCRIPTION

Seedlings Preschool Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for young children, and will be responsible for designing and implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum that promotes social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth. The Seedlings Preschool Teacher reports to Preschool Director.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Graduate with 60 college hours including a minimum of 6 hrs. of Early Childhood Education.
  • 1 year experience preferred working with preschool age children with a special knowledge of children’s physical, emotional, and developmental patterns.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and written, along with outstanding leadership and organizational skills are required,
  • A successful criminal background check is required.
  • Able to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances.
  • Able to understand and exhibit behavior consistent with stated park district policy.
  • Current CPR/AED and first aid certification preferred.
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Preparation of lesson plans & determines supplies needed.
  • Plan and implement a variety of weekly preschool activities.
  • Observe, evaluate, and provide feedback to the Preschool Director regarding the children’s cognitive, social and motor skills.
  • Coordinate activities and implement monthly calendar.
  • Cleaning and preparing the classroom daily.
  • Interacting with children, parents, staff and park district personnel.
  • Involvement in assisting with the implementation of planned activities.
  • Considerable involvement managing classroom behavior, program practices and guidelines.
  • Use age-appropriate activities and equipment.
  • Supervise the children at all times.
  • Some involvement in the supervising of the Preschool Aide.
  • Considerable involvement in the care and upkeep of the classroom.
  • Report any suspected child abuse to the Preschool Director immediately.
  • Report any unsafe conditions; perform daily safety checks, log inspections, and complete incident reports immediately.

  • ESSENTIAL MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • While performing this job, the employee is required to speak and listen, stand, walk, and use hands, sit, and stoop or kneel, bend and lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Specific vision requirements include distance, color vision, peripheral and depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Employee must be able to follow supervisor direction with safe follow through and exercise good judgment and safety awareness. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities.
  • JOB SPECIFICATIONS (PERSONNEL)
  • Assist the Preschool Director with staff training and development.
  • Interact with children, parents, co-workers and park district staff in a positive manner.
  • Act as a resource person to all aides.
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding participant’s private information consistent with park district policy and legal requirements.
  • Report to the preschool director any staff problems, parent concerns and behavioral problems.
  • Greet each child and parent as they enter and exit.
  • SAFETY AND FACILITY REQUIREMENTS
  • Assure a safe and hazard free environment by inspecting and taking the necessary action to correct and safeguard against potential problems and/or accidents.
  • Wipe tables and sweep after snack and at the end of the day.
  • Help put up and take down equipment/supplies at the site location at the beginning and end of the program day.
  • Keep cabinets and closets neat and clean.
  • Must comply with all safety policies and procedures now in effect or adopted in the future.
  • Worker must be able to follow directions with safe follow through and exercises good judgment and safety awareness.
  • Worker will use all required PPE.
  • All unsafe conditions are to be reported to your supervisor immediately.
  • TRAINING DEVELOPMENT
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Attend special events planned by the preschool.
