The Stingray Bay Swim Instructor is a part time position located at Stingray Bay. The swim instructor provides supervision and instruction to participants in the Huntley Park District's Starfish Swim Lesson program. The swim instructors report to the Recreation Manager – Aquatics and Fitness.
Requirements Qualifications
Must be at least 16 years of age and a capable swimmer.Must have knowledge of Starfish Aquatic Institute swim lesson curriculum or equivalent swim lesson curriculum.Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or other swim lesson certification preferred.Possess current CPR and first aid certification or able to obtain certification prior to opening day of Stingray Bay.Ability to understand and teach concepts of swimming strokes and skills to students.Ability to understand and teach concepts at age-appropriate levels.Ability to work with children.Demonstrate the ability to have patience and a positive attitude.Essential Functions / Responsibilities
Provide proper instruction of swimming strokes and skills to students.Begin and complete classes on time.Keep and maintain accurate records of students.Enforce pool and safety rules.Report any unsafe conditions.Attend trainings as assigned.Be in uniform as provided.Punch in and out on time keeping system for each shift you work.Interact with the general population, co-workers, and park district staff in a positive manner.Must be able to work under supervision.Must be able to give directions to students in a positive manner.Maintain confidentiality regarding participant’s private information consistent with park district policy and legal requirements.Marginal Functions
Find a substitute and be a substitute when needed.Perform other duties as assigned.Environmental Considerations
Employee may be exposed to chemicals (i.e. chlorine and cleaning materials).Employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions most of the time, including extreme heat, humidity, cold, and rain. Some indoor training is required.Staff is encouraged to wear sunscreen, sunglasses, shirt, and a hat in addition to drinking plenty of fluids.Essential Mental /
Physical Requirements While performing this job, the employee is required to speak, listen, stand, walk, use hands and arms, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and lift or move up to 40 pounds.Specific vision requirements include; distance, color vision, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.Must be able to handle stressful situations.Must be able to think and respond quickly and accurately in all situations.Worker must be able to follow supervisor direction with safe follow through and exercise good judgement and awareness. Assure a safe and hazard free environment by inspecting and taking the necessary action to correct and safeguard against potential problems and/or accidents.Must comply with all safety policies and procedures now in effect or adopted in the future.Worker must be able to follow directions with safe follow through and exercises good judgment and safety awareness.Worker will use all required PPE.All unsafe conditions are to be reported to your supervisor immediately.Training and DevelopmentMust complete park district in-service training sessions - 4 per month.Maintain CPR/First Aid Certification.Outline of Benefits Can Be Located
